As the summer breezes whip Maryland into a massive bubble of humidity, there’s a certain resonance with the shadowy allure of our beloved dark epic paranormal romantasy, The Merna Annals. Today, we delve deep into the mystique of Nephtyri, the great-granddaughter of a pharaoh turned vampire, and share poignant reflections on the bittersweet journey of bringing her tale to its climactic conclusion. Well, at least the first season, anyway.
Nephtyri has been more than just a character on the page; she has lived and breathed within the realms of my head. She taught me the meaning of the name of my podcast: Listening to the Voices in Our Heads. Her legacy—steeped in ancient multi-cultural lore, dark romance, and paranormal, magical intrigue—is growing on Ream Stories and about ready to slide through Kickstarter, Amazon, and wide placement to all vendors. From the moment I agreed to write this story with her, I knew things were going to be different.
How? That is the exciting part.
As the final chapters of The Merna Annals take shape in the form of the Side Quests and we wait for the start of Season 2 next year, the realization that Nephtyri's journey is coming to an end is both heart-wrenching and exhilarating. For years, she has been a constant companion, guiding us through a world of darkness and light, love and loss. Letting go of her will be like bidding farewell to a dear friend who has shared in both triumphs and tribulations. Yet, it is also a moment of fulfillment, seeing her story reach its destined conclusion, knowing that her legacy will endure in the hearts of so many readers.
Jenna’s on the esoteric side of creativity again, yes. At the same time, I cannot help but pause and celebrate the journey thus far with all of you. If it were not for you, we would not be getting ready to launch the Kickstarter on July 8, 2024 like we are. We would not be making the book box in the next year. We would not be willing to keep writing this world to share with so many others from so many angles.
