Teacher Burnouts and Business Startups
Kickstarter Update, Giveaways, An Internal Debate, Opening a New Door
Heyya, my lovelies. I hope you’re doing well this week. I’ve been quiet in some ways—and more so than I can afford to be. Let’s get to a Kickstarter Update first and some more things going on in my side questing brain lately.
Thank you to everyone who has funded the project. We’re cruising toward $1,000. When that happens, everyone will receive DICE. We’ve got two weeks to make that happen. If you would like to checkout all of the project here (including the two giveaways already attached to it) visit this link.
Despite being on Spring Break for a few days last week (my students had the entire week; I had half), I walked into April feeling like I was alright. Teacher burnout laughed in my face and said, “Hello, Soul Writer. Remember me? You have a long way to go until June 22.”
Oi vey. Don’t I know it.
I’ve been down this road quiet a bit over the last few years. I already sense the groans from some readers and the understanding via experience from others. Students and teachers alike are both tired of the burnout cycle year after year. However, I think it’s hitting me hardest now because I wasn’t taking care of me enough.
I hate cancelling plans. It’s the Virgo in me, what else can I say? I’m learning how to avoid that guilt teachers seem required to bring into the profession when it comes to admitting I need some time to sit back and clear my head. To work on something for me and for my sake or entertainment—if nothing more or less than that.
With this week being Easter for most people in the United States and for my Pagan brothers and sisters, the start to a new astrological year… I decided it was time to pull back and analyze where I see myself being in the next five years. Even if it was for the sake of daydreaming and nothing more.
My answer was clear. Regardless of when I visited this day dream throughout my week.
A chapter in my life is ending just as another is starting. I’m exiting the traditional teacher stage of my life for good within the next five years. Preferably the next two years. I’ve been fighting the guilt of leaving since 2017, after a principal told me that I simply would never be a good teacher because of my disabilities. I stayed in, telling myself it was my first school and to give another contract a chance. Six years later, I feel the call to teach the people who want me most.
My fellow creatives. My fellow writers. My fellow authors. My readers. You.
I’ve already started the process according to what is on my kanban board this quarter. In the coming month, I’ll be making a huge announcement that will be a leap worth more than I could imagine.
I’ll be updating you more in the coming weeks. In the mean time, check out some of my favorite fellow authors and all their epicness!
Check out the giveaway posts on either my INSTAGRAM or my FACEBOOK for chances to win epic things and learn more about this book.
Visit with my friend and beta reader extraordinaire for The Merna Annals, Inka York! SHE JUST RELEASED A NEW BOOK, SECRETS AT THE DOOR!
Are you into M/M romance? I know some of you are… after all, Frey and Lee are the most favorite couple in my books for some of you, or some I’m told, lol.
If this fits your fancy, consider Melissa Power’s newest book series. She just dropped her series title reveal last week, and she’s going to be teasing us with more information in the weeks to come. Click the picture to go see the full video!
Last and certainly not least, this one is to pique the interest of my fellow tabletop RPGers on the list. A dear friend of mine and fellow Authortuber named Sako Tumi has been hosting various TTRPG things on her YouTube channel since I met her. And now, she’s teaching people how to play the game. Also, did you know that she does comic book art? Such a talent!
Thank you for being continually supportive of me, lovelies.
Take care of yourselves, I know you’re worth it!
Blessings be,
Jenna O’Malley
Your Soul Writer
