You Claim to Write Sci-fi/fantasy with dashes of romance and nerdy refs...
why are you obsessed with blending paranormal, fantasy, and romance
Welcome, Sunwalkers,
I’m finally wrapping one stage of the metacognition and genre connections for the world I thought I was only to live in for three books.
Seven of which are available by the end of this year, followed by another three next spring, should the Wheel spin in my favor with this new timeline and lease on life. Let’s delve into the art of writing across multiple genres. As writers, the ability to pivot between different storytelling styles is not just a skill but an adventure that enriches our craft. Today, we explore how seamlessly weaving through diverse genres can elevate the reader’s experience.
As usual around these parts, Imma picking on poor Frey from The Merna Annals. Frey, a vampire with a complex history and deep emotional layers, first captured readers' hearts when he literally drags Ian into the merna world at the end of Book 1's second chapter. Yeah, if you think Frey was thirsty for a bite in more ways than one at first glance, you might not be wrong. In the long run, they’re much more happy to be brothers... then again, they’re also really good at both landing each out in trouble and getting each other out of it for a reason.
However, Frey's story doesn't end there. In the standalone book Six Weeks but Three Years, Frey's journey takes a thrilling turn as he embarks on an adventure through time and the realms. This spin-off, set against the backdrop of The Merna Annals, transports readers into a genre-blending narrative that combines elements of dark fantasy with portal hopping through various eras and locations. I know, I know. “Soul Writer, you claim to write sci-fi fantasy with dashes of romance and nerdy references, and yet The Merna Annals is merely dark epic paranormal romantasy. When are we getting to the sci-fi?”
This spin-off novel is about to introduce it!
At the heart of both dark paranormal fantasy romance and time-travel adventures lies the universal theme of transformation. Whether it's Frey grappling with his vampire nature and forbidden love or navigating the shifting sands of time and changing technology (or doing the same with Lee, ahemahem), both genres explore characters' evolution and the profound impact of their choices. The emotional depth, rich world-building, and intricate character development that define Frey's journey are constants, regardless of the genre.
Furthermore, both genres offer readers a sense of escapism and wonder. Dark paranormal fantasy romance immerses us in a world where the supernatural intersects with human emotions, while time-travel stories invite us to explore "what if" scenarios across different historical contexts. In Six Weeks but Three Years, Frey's encounters with various timelines highlight the timeless nature of love, sacrifice, and self-discovery, bridging the gap between genres in unexpected and delightful ways. This spin-off is a crux point for many other parts of the spin off tales to The Merna Annals’ main plotline. Maybe I watched too many Gundam anime, played too much Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Elder Scrolls for me own good after all... That is why I’m excited to finish the spin off tales and the Kickstarter this summer.
Once those two items are finished, then we can focus on the books going to Amazon and Wide by the end of the year. Once that is finished? Vitagelangica, my litrpg / portal hop / romance that runs alongside The Merna Annals (Season 2, Books 6-10), will be the focus. Three books. Out by next summer.

As we writers continue to hone our craft, remember that exploring multiple genres is not just about expanding your repertoire but about uncovering the universal threads that connect all great stories. That is why I hope my readers, the soul of my business, resonates with the healing stories and journeys my characters weave throughout time and space. No matter the location or the genre. Thank you for supporting all I do. Embrace the challenge, let your creativity flow, and who knows—you might just create a crossover masterpiece like the enthralling tales of Frey.
Happy writing and reading!
